The enemy is only a few minutes away by car.

Residents of Rubishne in the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine are preparing for the arrival of the Russian invaders.

Resident Olga leads through an air raid shelter located in the basement of a kindergarten.

O-Ton Bunker resident Olga: "We have our own pharmacy, at least something like that. From this house pharmacy we can not only help the people down here, but also the people in the area, and we do that too.

Around 140 people currently live in the building.

But there were already 600 of them down here in the shelter, says Olga.

Valentina has also been living here for almost three months.

Original sound from Bunker resident Valentina: "I moved in here when the shelling began. That's actually an understatement. They started bombing the city. On February 24, military activities began nearby. I stayed until at home on March 9. But then I couldn't stay longer because you couldn't stay in an apartment anymore."

A large part of the approximately 60,000 residents of Rubishne have fled.

The region has been the subject of heavy fighting for weeks.

The strategically important industrial city of Sievjerodonetsk is only a few kilometers away.

According to the regional governor, most of the city is already under Russian control.

If the city fell in its entirety, Russia would have achieved one of its war aims: complete control of the Luhansk region.

Some of the people are still holding out in the Rubischne air raid shelter.

You have no choice but to wait.

Original sound from Bunker resident Olga: As you can see, we are preparing dinner.

For lunch we had pea soup.

We are supplied with food, we don't have a humanitarian catastrophe here."
