Today, the health authorities in the United States announced that 21 cases of monkeypox had been recorded in the country, warning of a local outbreak of this disease.

And Agence France-Presse quoted the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as saying in a statement that among the cases that were recorded, 20 cases were detected in 11 states, while the twenty-first case was detected and occurred abroad, indicating that the majority of injuries among Americans are related to trips abroad.

"There may be a local outbreak," said Jennifer McCuston, who is responsible for the CDC's response to monkeypox, adding at the same time: "We still believe the risk to public health is minimal."

Monkeypox, according to the World Health Organization, is a rare viral disease of animal origin that transmits its virus from animals to humans, and the symptoms of human infection with it are similar to those experienced by people with smallpox, but are less severe.
