After train accident: Road closure around Garmisch remains "safe over the weekend"

Update from June 3, 6:20 p.m.:

After the train accident with four dead near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, investigations into the cause begin.

"The first work is being done on site," said a police spokesman on Friday afternoon.

With the help of experts from the Federal Railway Authority, the police and public prosecutors wanted to find out why the regional train derailed on the single-track route towards Munich.

The police expect "lengthy investigations".

Bavaria's Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU) said that "no second train and no other vehicle" was involved in the accident.

Securing and recovering the overturned wagons will "certainly take the next few days," said a police spokesman on Friday.

“That will no longer work today.” The closures of the railway line and the parallel federal highway 2 would therefore have to “be safely maintained over the weekend”.
