Moscow-Sana

Russia today announced a ban on entry to 41 Canadians, including senior defense officials and executives, for their support of extremist nationalist brigades in Ukraine, in implementation of the principle of reciprocity.

"The Russian sanctions come in response to the anti-Russian sanctions announced by the Canadian authorities on the eighth of last month, which affect the leadership of the Russian Defense Ministry, military leaders and representatives of the business community," TASS news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement.

The list includes Minister of Veterans Affairs Lawrence McCauley, Assistant Minister of National Defense of Canada Peter Hammerschmidt, Assistant Deputy Secretary of National Defense for Policy Troy Crosby, Assistant Deputy Secretary of National Defense for Equipment Sherry Crosby, Assistant Deputy Secretary of National Defense, Chief Financial Officer Robert Chambers, and Assistant Deputy Minister of National Defense for Infrastructure and the Environment.

The statement pointed out that the list also includes "Canadian Deputy Minister of National Defense for Public Affairs and Information Exchange, Science and Technology and Frances Allen, Deputy Chief of Defense Staff."

"Restrictions have also been placed on Kasyan Soltykevich, the national secretary of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, other members of that organization and members of other groups that support extremist nationalist forces in Ukraine," the statement added.
