The issues that need fixing seem so big that we remain passive in front of them.

A new secular amendment inspired by the Zionist Pentecost is needed.

Our fathers and mothers celebrated the achievements of the past year, as a means of building identity and society.

Decorated with wreaths, in processions and ceremonies, they marked each year anew the connection to Bible stories and miraculously raised what they built, grew and promoted, thus creating an identity-building celebration, and promoting an active society for itself.

Inspired by them, At the expense of the celebration and the active correction.

It is supposedly really simple to move from learning about the state of poverty in Israel to actively promoting its eradication.

Supposedly anyone can make amends in a burning area for him, but the truth is that usually the issues that need correction feel so big and threatening that we remain passive in the face of them, not everyone is fit to lead the revolution in areas like poverty, security or domestic violence.

But the Feast of Firstfruits and the Repairs can be an opportunity for just that.

The wedding season as an opportunity for correction

At Pentecost we will promote an opportunity to cherish the first fruits of those people who work all year to improve our lives here in the country, celebrate their achievements and at the same time learn in the correction the field in which they are engaged and choose whom to actively join the struggle.

You can join or initiate events such as those called "Here we make repairs", where we at "Tmura Israeli Jewry" meet every year on Shavuot with people who correct the situation in Israel.

We recently met with about 20 people who promote various issues such as the fight against domestic violence, Arab-Jewish discourse and assistance to the poor and foreign workers.

This year on the eve of the holiday we will meet three linguists who choose to make a correction in the world in their field of profession.

Pentecost should be seen as an opportunity to connect with social activism to improve life in the country.

Whether through joining individuals and organizations that already have proven accomplishments in these areas or whether through personal repair at home that has far-reaching implications.

One such opportunity is the wedding season that is at its peak on Pentecost.

The personal correction depends on us

The Jewish-Israeli wedding ceremony, held in isolation from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, has become much more egalitarian than it used to be, but between us it is still not really like that.

The ancient religious wedding event combined a contract signing ceremony between households with a patriarchal religious ceremony.

Compared to the secular Jewish wedding ceremony that combines a romantic ceremony, celebrating a personal love story, and emphasizing a commitment to past and future generations.

Some quote it as "Song of Songs", and contemporary Hebrew poetry, some couples formulate and sign their address together, some are mutually committed to their common future.

And there are those who share the audience in their love story.

Sometimes they are the same people and sometimes not what is clear is that they are sovereign to hold their wedding as they wish.

So why do most couples still choose gender bias?

Why do most couples choose a ceremony editor to lead him just because he is a man?

Yes, even secular couples who choose a Reform or Conservative religious wedding, and even couples who choose to celebrate a Jewish, secular, humanistic wedding with us choose mostly a man instead of a woman to perform their ceremony.

And I ask this holiday why?

Would we prefer a male doctor over a female doctor?

Judge over judge?

Just because of their gender?

of course not.

This personal correction is up to us and can be one of the hallmarks of this holiday.

I call on all those looking for an equal marriage to contact the organizers of ceremonies and have a fruitful and empowering dialogue with them.

Because this empowerment can be at the heart of the amendment this holiday.

This is how they will be combined with the holiday: the celebration of the Jewish wedding ceremony equated with the longing for social correction.

We will celebrate our achievement, and at the same time remember that it is not enough to learn about equality and even declare our belief in this value, it is essential that we secularists continue to work to advance our values, because no one will do it for us.

As they said before us: We do not have to finish the job, nor are we free to cancel it.

I wish us all, a holiday of achievement and a happy correction.
