The Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance is one of the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival activities, but it has been cancelled in the past two years due to the epidemic.
In response to the opening ceremony of the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Cultural Center will be held next Saturday (11th), the fire dragon will reappear in Tai Hang on that day.
The conference said that next Saturday, the Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and other officiating guests will be arranged to do the finishing touch and the red hairpin ceremony for the fire dragon at the Tai Hang Fong Public Welfare Association. The building at No. 12, Shu Kuen Street, was rated as a Grade 3 historic building by the Antiquities Advisory Committee in 2010. It is now being revitalized into the "Tai Hang Fire Dragon Cultural Centre", and its opening ceremony will be held next Saturday.
The conference said that at 6 p.m. on that day, officiating guests including Carrie Lam, Executive Council Convenor Chan Chi-sik, and Secretary for Development Wong Wai-lun will be arranged to do the finishing touches and the red hairpin-hanging ceremony for the fire dragon, and then the fire dragon will lead the officiating guests from Tai Hang Fang. Two years later, the Dakeng Fire Dragon Dance will reappear.
In previous years, before and after the Mid-Autumn Festival, that is, from the 14th to the 16th day of the eighth lunar month, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance would be held for three consecutive days.
However, both 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to the epidemic.

The Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance was first held in 1880 and has a history of over 140 years.
The origin is precisely because of the plague that occurred in Dakeng. It is said that the villagers made a dragon with incense sticks on it, and danced the fire dragon to parade around the village, and then the plague stopped.
Since then, the villagers have held fire dragon dances for three days every year to ensure the safety of Dakeng.
