A confrontation took place this evening (Saturday) between the deputy council of the Shura, Muhammad Salameh Hassan, and the police in the Old City of Jerusalem. During the confrontation he was arrested and later released by the police officer.
The police said that "during the activity of the border police in the Old City of Jerusalem, the suspect and his family began to disturb the order at the place, to get angry and shout at the police.
The policemen tried to prevent the riot and calm the spirits, but the family members attacked the policemen and even tore the uniform of one of their uniforms.
"As a result of their misconduct, they were arrested and later released by a decision of the officer in charge."
The Islamic Movement and the United Arab List condemned the incident and sought to prosecute the police.
"This is a criminal attack by a cowardly policeman, who proves that the occupation police in the al-Aqsa Mosque are complicit in the attacks and violations against the mosque and the worshipers. They are no less extreme than the extremist settler groups attacking al-Aqsa."
It is further alleged that the reason for the attack on Selma and his family members is because one of the policewomen remarked not to smoke in the mosque courtyards and that the police response shows the racism and aggression of the police officers in front of worshipers.
The chief of staff of the "Red Line Protest", Yoel Shilo, said in response: "From the point of view of Ra'am and the Islamic Movement, the police of the State of Israel are the 'occupation police'.
It is impossible to continue a situation in which Islamic, anti-Zionist parties that incite to harm our police are in the Knesset and the government.
We have already experienced terrorist attacks on the Temple Mount, this is first-rate incitement.
We demand that the Minister of Internal Security condemn the incitement immediately and demand the removal of Ram from the coalition.
