Last year, the District Engineering and Facilities Management Committee approved the "Wan Chai Coastline History Trail" signboard renovation project. Wan Chai District Councillor Gu Kwok-wai wrote to the District Office last month to follow up on the issue.

She described the signs as still in a dilapidated state and asked the prescription to submit a timetable for the renovation project.

In addition, she pointed out that there are 27 "Wan Chai Coastline History Trail" signs in the area, but some of them are not included in the renovation project.

The Wanchai District Office replied that the engineering team of the Home Affairs Department had completed the quotation process in April this year and carried out renovation works for 22 damaged signboards. The responsible contractor is now making the signboard components. The signage will be re-installed at the original site, and the work is expected to be completed in August.

The prescription stated that in addition to the 22 signs involved in this renovation project, the two signs outside Southorn Playground on Johnston Road and the sign at the bottom of the flyover opposite No. 10 Canal Road West have been relocated earlier. or renovation, so it was not included in this renovation project.

In addition, there are two signs located in the exhibition area, which need to be temporarily removed due to the impact of nearby works. After the completion of the works, the relevant contractors will reset the relevant signs.

The prescription emphasizes that after all the signboards are refurbished, the engineering team will conduct regular inspections and carry out routine maintenance work.

The information on the sign has not kept up with the evolution of the coastline. For example, the reclamation of Wan Chai North was carried out after 2007, but the sign has not been updated.
