80 children and adolescents toured the alleys of old Homs and got acquainted with its archaeological landmarks and civilizational symbols rooted in history through a tour organized by Mada Cultural Team.

The itinerary included a visit to the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Umm Al-Zinar in the Bustan Al-Diwan neighborhood, Al-Zahrawi Palace in the Al-Hamidiyah neighborhood, and Marlian Al-Homsi monastery in the Bab Al-Dreeb neighborhood, and learning about the history of the mentioned monuments, their departments, and ways of building them.

In a statement to SANA, Ramez Al-Hussein, director of Mada’s cultural team in Homs, indicated that the event is the second organized by the team with the children, and was preceded by their visit to the plastic art exhibition “Syria brings us together” at the Cultural Center hall last April, indicating that the goal of the trip was to introduce children to the Syrian civilization and historical and archaeological sites in Homs Practical and interesting, especially as it embraces about 40 archaeological sites.

Al-Hussein pointed out that the team seeks to activate the role of children in the cultural movement through various activities through coordination with the Directorate of Education and the Al-Tala’a branch, where preparations are being made to display a bouquet of entertaining and entertaining cartoon films in schools and organize drawing workshops for children within the gardens.

Supervisor Maryam Al-Zaim, a member of the Mada team, expressed her happiness with the children’s interaction during the trip, which was evident by listening carefully to the explanation, their questions and observations, indicating that they learned during the trip the history of the construction of Al-Zahrawi Palace in the Mamluk era, the reason for its name, its two main sections, and the rich architectural traditions manifested in the palace.

Al-Zaim added, "The children admired the marble columns in the Marlian Church, the frescoes of Christ and the Virgin, and scenes from the life of Saint Elian that decorated the hall. The Apostle Thomas in India to the city of Edessa and from there he was transferred to Homs in 476 and put him in a special wing next to the church.”

Rayman Ibrahim, director of the Martyr Issa Al-Fahli School, pointed out the importance of organizing tourist trips for children and providing all facilities from the concerned authorities to allow the new generation to learn about the history of his country in a practical way on the ground, as it imprints in his mind happy memories and valuable information that he will not forget and urges him to preserve these historical treasures.
