The residents of Judea and Samaria are in a kind of trap • Heads the Yesha Council - the body that is supposed to reflect our interests, a person who repeatedly undermines those interests • The damage to the settlement enterprise is enormous

There is an association, the Yesha Council named, which was established in 1980 to "promote the settlement enterprise, represent the interests of the settlers, as well as to maintain information in Israel and abroad in favor of the legitimacy of the enterprise and its importance."

Its members are the mayors, local councils and Israeli regional councils of Judea and Samaria.

This body deserves a lot of credit for the development of Jewish settlement in parts of the country beyond the Green Line.

This cannot be argued.

But this body is also an anomaly by its very existence, and things have sharpened even more in recent years, under the scepter of its chairman, David Elhayani, head of the Jordan Valley Council.

The members of the association are, as stated, the heads of the authorities who were elected in the municipal elections.

They are given authority but also responsibility, and the public judges them every five years and decides whether to continue their tenure.

The chairman of the Yesha Council, on the other hand, was not elected by the settler public but by the same members of the association.

And here the dog is buried.

Because once the chairman, who claims to represent me and the nearly half a million Israeli residents of Judea and Samaria, chooses an ideological and political path that does not conform to the perception of the majority of the public in Judea and Samaria, the interests of the settlers - we are in big trouble.

There is an almost philosophical question here that needs to be asked: Can a person or body represent a public that has not chosen them?

I know, the same question can be asked about Naftali Bennett, the Attorney General and the Supreme Court justices.

But within my selfish people is sitting, and what happened this week in a vote to extend the validity of Judea and Samaria regulations only made clear how weighty this question is.

Because we, the inhabitants of Judea and Samaria, are in a kind of trap, standing at the head of the body which is supposed to reflect our interests is a person who repeatedly sabotages those interests.

Whether it was at the time of the turn of the century, when he exercised all his weight to prevent the application of sovereignty, whether it was his delusional support for a new party of hope and this government, and whether it was the last campaign in which, contrary to the position of most Judea and Samaria authorities, To overthrow this evil government.

The damage that Elhaini is causing, and with it a small but unfortunate number of heads of authorities, to the settlement enterprise, is enormous.

After all, they were never elected to decide for their residents what is the right attitude towards the central government.

Who is your name, Mr. Elhayani, to decide for me whether this government is legitimate?

I chose you?

Did anyone other than the 6,500 Jordan Valley residents choose you to represent us?

It is important to put things into perspective: the settlement enterprise and the national camp, which is currently in opposition, are sharp.

The heads of the Judea and Samaria councils, every day that David Elhayeni leads the Yesha Council is a sign of disgrace to us and a fatal blow to the unconditional alliance between the settlement and the national camp. More than ever, make sure that the Yesha Council is not helpless.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
