(CNN Spanish) --

The League of Anticorruption Governors, led by Rodolfo Hernández, is a relatively new Colombian political movement that had great success in Bucaramanga in the 2019 regional elections and is now the protagonist of the second round in the presidential elections.

Hernández will compete against Gustavo Petro to reach the Casa de Nariño in the second round scheduled for June 19.

Origin of the League of Anti-Corruption Rulers

The League of Anti-Corruption Leaders was born, according to the group itself, as Hernández's idea to group under that umbrella "independent citizens willing to reach public office to evict from all the municipal and departmental governments of Colombia the bandits who live off the politics".

Its national headquarters is in the city where Hernández's political career began, Bucaramanga, in northern Colombia.

His motto is "do not steal, do not lie, do not betray".

The "LIGA", as the movement presents itself, was authorized by law to participate in the elections of mayors, governors, Departmental Assembly, Municipal Council, District Council and Local Administrative Boards for the period between 2020 and 2023.

Members

Rodolfo Hernández:

heads the Anti-Corruption Governors League.

The previous movement that he had also founded, and with which he became mayor of Bucaramanga, was called "Logic, Ethics and Aesthetics."

A 77-year-old engineer by profession, Hernández amassed his fortune in the low-income housing construction industry (for the poorest families) in the 1990s, when Colombia was going through a construction crisis.

In 1992 he had already been a councilman for the municipality of Piedecuesta, where he was born, but he never attended or took office as a lobbyist.

In 2016 he won the mayor's office, which he resigned in 2019 alleging political persecution and when the Attorney General sanctioned him for alleged improper participation in politics.

Marelen Castillo: She

is Hernández's running mate.

Castillo, with no political experience, has spent her entire life dedicated to study and academia: she was a school teacher and in the last two decades of higher education institutions.

She has a degree in Biology and Chemistry from the Universidad Santiago de Cali and an industrial engineer from the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente in Cali.

She also has a master's degree and a doctorate.

She was born in Cali, the third largest city in the country.

Who is Marelen Castillo, who could be the next vice president of Colombia?

This retired Army lieutenant is the other representative elected by the League.

After his time in the Armed Forces, he worked in a private security company in Bogotá and was an advisor.
