Heat wave in Las Vegas, United States
More than 80 million people in the United States were warned Saturday of record-breaking temperatures over the weekend, due to an early heat wave that is spreading across the southwest of the state, from California in the west to Arkansas in the east.
On Saturday, national weather service stations in Phoenix, Albuquerque, Houston and San Antonio warned of extreme heat of more than 43 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, parts of Kansas, Missouri Louisiana and Mississippi have received extreme weather alerts.
Phoenix and Las Vegas reported record highs on Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Phoenix, the capital of Arizona, recorded 45 degrees Celsius, surpassing a previous record set in 1978 of 43.9 degrees.
Las Vegas broke an earlier record from 1996, with 42.7 degrees Celsius.
Heat records were also broken in Wiko, Texas, which overtook an earlier record set in 1911;
Austin broke a record set in 2012.
Albuquerque recorded for the first time this year a temperature of more than 40 degrees.

"This is the first heat wave of the season," the National Weather Service meteorologist told USA Today.
Forecasters for AccuWeather and NWS stations in the southwest of the country have warned that temperatures will be 5-10 degrees above average, with the hottest spot this weekend expected to be Death Valley in California - where temperatures will reach nearly 50 degrees Celsius for the first time this year.
The University of California at Davis was forced to shorten its graduation ceremony after 36 people needed medical attention due to the heat.
Seven people were evacuated to hospitals.
