Russia accuses the West of preventing peace negotiations with Ukraine and thus prolonging the war.

"Now is the moment when Western countries are betting everything on continuing the war," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on state television.

Under US leadership, the West is allowing Ukrainians "not to think about, talk about, or discuss peace."

In doing so, Peskov was reacting to statements by Western politicians that they did not want to press Ukraine into negotiations.

At the moment there is apparently no need to calm the situation, the spokesman for President Vladimir Putin suspected.

Nevertheless, the moment for negotiations will come.

For peace, however, Ukraine must accept Russian demands, said Peskov.

Putin has named the recognition of the illegally annexed Black Sea peninsula of Crimea as Russian territory and the cession of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions as war goals.

In addition, it is about the "denazification" and "demilitarization" of Ukraine and its renunciation of NATO membership.

Ukrainian Presidential Advisor Mykhailo Podoliak responded by saying that Russia was aware of the conditions for negotiations: a ceasefire, troop withdrawal, the return of kidnapped citizens, the extradition of war criminals, as well as a reparations mechanism and recognition of Ukraine's sovereign rights.

"The time will come and we will put it on paper," Podoljak said on Twitter.

The city in the Donbass subregion of Donetsk was fired at with multiple rocket launchers on Sunday, the mayor said in a video published on Facebook.

Ukraine War: Lysychansk not under full Russian control

Lukashenko's allegations come amid speculation that Belarus is becoming more involved in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

However, according to the Belta agency, Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus has no intention of fighting in Ukraine.

News about the Ukraine war: Russia is allegedly using cluster munitions

According to Ukrainian information, Russia is said to have used banned cluster munitions in rocket attacks on the city of Sloviansk in eastern Ukraine.
