Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lamented the loss of a "

" on Friday, hours after the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

, ”regrets the Canadian Prime Minister on Twitter, offering his condolences to his wife Akie as well as to the Japanese.

The former Japanese prime minister was shot dead by an assailant who opened fire on him in full electoral rally in Nara (west) for the senatorial elections on Sunday.
At 67, shot twice in the neck, the former leader died in hospital as a result of this attack.
The suspect, 41-year-old unemployed Tetsuya Yamagami, confessed to committing the crime and said he used a homemade weapon, according to Japanese police.
The assassination of Shinzo Abe has aroused strong emotion from Asia to the West.
