The application for the "Bookmark" campaign has paid off for the Wolfratshausen public library.

In the literal sense.

Wolfratshausen - The whole thing was originally intended as a one-off campaign: For the past 15 years, Bayernwerk Netz GmbH, in cooperation with the state department for public librarianship of the Bavarian State Library and the Sankt Michaelsbund, has been awarding the "Bookmark" award to libraries in municipal and church sponsorship throughout Bavaria.

“All facilities in cities or communities with up to 100,000 inhabitants can apply,” explains Alexander Usselmann, Bayernwerk municipal supervisor.

The Wolfratshausen public library took advantage of this opportunity and is now happy to receive 1,000 euros for the purchase of books and new media for children and young people.

The rafting town is not on the list of winners for the first time.

The branch of the city library had already won the children's library prize in 2014 and received prize money of 5,000 euros at the ceremony in Neunburg, Upper Palatinate.

The motto of this year's campaign was "Library Ideas Factory".

Usselmann: “We want to use this to underline the importance of libraries for society – reading and thus creativity and inspiration are promoted here, especially among children.” a great offer to lure people away from their cell phones and encourage them to read instead".

A library should be attractive and it is part of youth education.

Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner

Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner agreed when the check was handed over.

"A library should be attractive, and it is part of youth education." The Wolfratshausen library is also a place where "wonderful events" are held, emphasized the head of town hall.

City library manager Silke Vogel also sees the award as a confirmation of the work done by the seven employees and 13 volunteers.

"I promise that we will continue to apply," Vogel announced to the Bayernwerk representative.

Heilinglechner immediately raised the bar with a wink: "Then we'll aim for 5000 euros again." (sh)
