There were traffic delays.

Irschenberg - An 18-year-old woman from Augsburg caused an accident on the A8 at the ramp near Irschenberg on Friday evening because she misjudged the length of the acceleration lane.

According to the police, the woman wanted to drive onto the Autobahn towards Munich at around 6:20 p.m. when an Italian (79) was driving in his Mercedes with a trailer.

At the end of the acceleration lane, which does not end in a hard shoulder at this point, the 18-year-old was still driving next to the Italian and had to decide whether to drive into the crash barrier or the car and trailer.

She chose the team, pulled to the left and collided with the Mercedes and trailer.

The accident caused property damage to both vehicles estimated at 15,000 euros each.

All those involved in the accident were uninjured.

The woman now has to reckon with a fine of 110 euros and a point in Flensburg.

The Italian also faces a penalty: when the accident was recorded, the officials noticed that the 79-year-old now has a class B driver's license.

This is not enough to be allowed to drive the trailer.

The police will institute criminal proceedings against the man for driving without a license.

The public prosecutor ordered that the Italian had to pay 400 euros on the spot as security for the expected fine.

After the accident, the police briefly closed the A8 completely to clean the lanes.

Shortly thereafter, she released a lane again.

Overall, the measures obstructed traffic towards Munich for about two hours.

At 8.30 p.m., the Holzkirchen motorway maintenance department completed the cleaning of the roadway and the officials released the motorway completely again.
