To move towards the vision of a smart city, all walks of life are actively promoting digital development, so engineering, technology and life are naturally inseparable. Ranked No. 1 in Hong Kong for 12 consecutive years in the QS World University Rankings by Subject

To move towards the vision of a smart city, all walks of life are actively promoting digital development, so engineering, technology and life are naturally inseparable.

Ranked No. 1 in Hong Kong for 12 consecutive years in the QS World University Rankings by Subject The new multi-layer antibacterial coating (MAP-1) with antibacterial protection to help Hong Kong fight the epidemic; and the now very popular aerial camera, which was also jointly developed by HKUST professors and students.

The reason why HKUST can continue to design innovative ideas and turn them into scientific research and engineering works that are convenient for life is all because of the diverse supporting support provided by the Faculty of Engineering of HKUST, which cultivates students’ interest in learning and develops their skills, and also has a comprehensive support and employment network. Allowing students to accumulate more "practical experience" is the first choice for further studies.

The HKUST team developed a new type of intelligent antibacterial coating, and sprayed it in different schools and social welfare institutions.

The product has also been launched into the retail market through cooperative corporate partners. In the past two years, it has been widely adopted by public transportation, catering, property management companies and even general consumers, contributing to the fight against the epidemic.

The School of Engineering of HKUST is student-oriented and advocates "innovative engineering education", which outlines a variety of learning experiences covering different topics, including Design Thinking, Conservation, Experiential Learning, etc., which not only enhances students' interest in learning , and also through different activities, competitions and internship experiences, to help students discover interesting and developable career paths.

In addition, the Faculty of Engineering of HKUST has also set up a mixed reality classroom (Mixed Reality E-learning Classroom) for future teaching and learning, with built-in online teaching equipment and indoor positioning system, students can wear helmet-mounted devices and use controllers Entering the "virtual laboratory" can also promote online interaction between teachers and students, so that learning is not affected by regions and even the epidemic.

In a mixed reality classroom, tutors and students interact with each other in the virtual world as avatars.

Students can touch and use equipment in the virtual lab as long as they don the helmet-mounted device and use the controller.

Set up a number of innovative engineering courses to comprehensively cultivate talents through interdisciplinary learning

Students interested in engineering disciplines and aspiring to become professional engineers should pay attention!

The Faculty of Engineering of HKUST accepts students on an academic basis. JUPAS students can choose Engineering (JS5200) or Hong Kong's first extended major in Artificial Intelligence (JS5282).

In the first year, students will learn different fields of engineering theory first, and in the next year, they will choose a major or even a minor subject according to their interests, giving students sufficient time to find a way of development in the course.

The latter is specially designed for students who are particularly interested in artificial intelligence. In the first year, they will also dabble in all-round engineering knowledge. First, lay a solid foundation. In the next year, they can choose to major in one of the engineering college courses, and they are guaranteed to take courses. Read an extended major in artificial intelligence; students who did not choose artificial intelligence at the time of admission, if they find that they are interested in artificial intelligence after the first year of study, they can also apply for an extended major in artificial intelligence after choosing a major.

In addition to the above two courses, the Bachelor of Science in Integrated Systems and Design (JS5211) is also one of the options. It cultivates design and systems thinking in the form of hands-on learning and group projects. Graduates can become design engineers, technical consultants, etc., with a variety of ways out.

The School of Engineering also places great emphasis on interdisciplinary knowledge, catering to today's development needs in data science, sustainable energy, bioengineering, etc., to help students equip themselves in an all-round way.

If students have not yet decided on their future path and want to pursue an additional field of expertise, they can choose their major from a wide range of engineering courses, or choose an interdisciplinary course, double major, or even technology and double majors in management (including global business management) to meet the different needs of students.

In the Makerspace, students can exchange ideas and collaborate to design and develop engineering works.

Advocate "experiential learning" to encourage innovative design to improve the network

In addition to innovative, professional and diverse courses, HKUST also provides a large number of supporting facilities and resources to comprehensively support students' development, so that they can experience and learn at the same time.

HKUST is the only university in Hong Kong that has set up an Engineering Education Innovation Center (E²I), which specially set up a peer mentoring program to recruit senior students to become peer mentors to help first-year freshmen who have just entered the university to adapt to the transition period of university life. Learning advice, emotional support, freshmen can also borrow the experience of seniors and seniors to improve their learning effectiveness, and ask for advice on choosing majors.

HKUST has also introduced "experiential courses" for many years to encourage students to develop their creativity, design innovative inventions, and exercise their analytical and problem-solving skills.

Through the "Undergraduate-Led Experiential Learning Program (USEL)", students complete engineering works designed by themselves under the guidance of professors; the USEL laboratory, which is open 24 hours a day, has sufficient professional equipment, and senior students serve as "students". Technical Consultant” to help students design, manufacture prototypes or make mock presentations.

These "practical experiences" are not limited to self-creation. HKUST also encourages students to participate in local and international competitions. It also has a well-established network of companies and alumni to provide students with internships. There are also plenty of opportunities for overseas exchanges and international research, which not only help students They enter the workplace early, enhance their personal competitiveness, and can also develop an international perspective.

The HKUST Robotics Team is a frequent visitor to the Robotics Competition for College Students in Hong Kong and has won the championship 11 times.
