A 50-year-old man in Tseung Kwan O was suspicious at the bicycle parking spaces at Tsui Ling Road and Tong Yin Street yesterday (9th) night and took a bicycle.
Police officers patrolling nearby suspected the man of stealing a bicycle, so they approached him and stopped him.
The man fled, and police officers launched a chase and arrested the man on suspicion of "theft".
The incident happened on the evening of yesterday (9th), during the anti-theft patrol of the Tseung Kwan O Police District Task Force in the area, a man with suspicious behavior was found at the bicycle parking area of Tsui Ling Road and Tong Yin Street to take a bicycle. Officers suspected that the man had stolen the bicycle, so they stopped and checked. The man fled, and then officers found the man and the bicycle involved at the junction of Tong Tak Street and Tong Yin Street.
After investigation, the 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of "theft".
The arrested man is being detained for investigation, and the case is being handed over to the first team of the Criminal Investigation Team of Tseung Kwan O Police District for follow-up investigation.
Police emphasise the theft is a serious crime, punishable by up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
The police will deploy officers in military uniforms and civilian clothes to step up patrols. The public should not try the law.
