Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (nicknamed AMLO) wants to make immigration policy the focus of his meeting this Tuesday at the White House with President Joe Biden, whom he will ask to promote work visas to combat inflation.
“If we want to face the economic crisis, we have to produce.
Inflation may originate circumstantially due to the pandemic, due to the war, but structurally it has to do with the lack of production,” AMLO explained in a press release on Monday.

The meeting will deal with the migratory exodus, economic cooperation, the fight against inflation, and security issues.
"It is a meeting to reaffirm our commitment to work together," he said.
The summit comes after a rise in migrants intercepted at the common border, and the tragedy of the
Texas
death truck in which 53 undocumented immigrants died.
"These unfortunate events, which have to do with the situation of poverty, happen because there is also human trafficking and lack of controls," said AMLO when the tragedy was known, anticipating that he would take the issue to the summit.

Without giving specific information about his requests to Biden, AMLO indicated that he is seeking "legal and optional migration" and ordering the flow both for those already here and "those who wish to enter out of necessity."

Regarding inflation, López Obrador indicated that he will propose common measures because Mexico is "the second largest trading partner of the United States."
In addition to work visas to boost production, AMLO will highlight investment opportunities in Mexico and the importance of strengthening the commercial relationship.
On the issue of security, he referred to the US agents operating in Mexican territory: "There is cooperation, but the sovereignty of our country is respected, and Biden has understood it that way, we have to recognize and thank him for that."

AMLO reported that the summit includes a working breakfast with the vice president, Kamala Harris, in the morning, and then a brief meeting of the presidents with their wives.
“They have an agenda, they go to a library.
Biden's wife is a teacher.
And that's what identifies them, the books, teaching, research," she said.
