The Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, discussed with the Iranian President’s Assistant and Head of the Environmental Protection Organization, Dr. Ali Salajka, in the presence of the Syrian Ambassador to Tehran, Dr. Shafiq Diop, ways of bilateral cooperation to confront emerging national, regional and international environmental challenges and to adopt an integrated regional vision to combat environmental phenomena that negatively affect society and the economy And all aspects of life.
Makhlouf stressed the importance of strengthening regional cooperation to improve environmental conditions, solve cross-border problems and challenges, pay attention to environmental issues in national planning and interact with other countries, leading to exchanging experiences, managing natural resources, addressing soil and air pollution problems, combating sand and dust storms, and implementing the required measures to mitigate and monitor the effects resulting from them and reduce Environmental deterioration, referring to the negative effects on the environment as a result of the terrorist war that Syria was exposed to and which caused environmental problems that affected trees and agricultural and forest areas.
Makhlouf said: "We have plans, programs and projects to confront the phenomenon of desertification and dust and dust. We also have specialized committees working in this regard. We will strengthen our work by benefiting from the experiences of others, exchanging experiences, qualifying specialized cadres, and benefiting from environmentally friendly solutions within the framework of regional cooperation that serves everyone." Makhlouf noted the memorandum of understanding that was signed with the Iranian side in Damascus in the field of environment, saying that it laid the foundation stone for meaningful and fruitful cooperation that achieves positive results to confront environmental challenges that can be resolved through concerted regional collective efforts.
Makhlouf added that the conference, which will be held tomorrow, constitutes an important opportunity to exchange views to achieve the desired goals, noting the strategic relations between the two countries as an example to be followed in the field of international relations based on mutual respect and common interests.
For his part, Seljuk reiterated his country's principled and supportive stance for Syria in the political, economic and environment fields. He said, "We are fully prepared to cooperate with the Syrian side in the environmental field, to provide expertise and qualify specialized cadres," and added: "We have modern ways to reduce the dust phenomenon by covering the soil with clean materials." Environmentally friendly, and the Syrian side can benefit from that, expressing his hope that the conference on environmental cooperation for a better future will produce positive results that will benefit everyone.
It is noteworthy that the work of the Conference on Environmental Cooperation for a Better Future will start tomorrow, with the participation of Syria, Iraq, Oman, the UAE, Armenia, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, and representatives of the United Nations, the United Nations Environment Program, the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the African Development Initiative in Asia and the Pacific.
