The Council of Europe renewed its call on the Turkish regime, headed by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to immediately release Osman Kavala, who was sentenced to life imprisonment.
"We welcome the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights issued today, which provides a clear answer in this file, and we renew our call for the immediate release of Kavala," the three main council officials were quoted by AFP as saying in a statement today, stressing that Turkey had failed to fulfill its obligations under the European Convention. for human rights.
The Turkish regime's judiciary had sentenced Kavala to life imprisonment on the 25th of last April for the attempted coup in 2016, while seven other defendants were sentenced to 18 years in prison for supporting him.
During the crackdown on his opponents in various Turkish cities and regions over the past years, the Erdogan regime has arrested thousands of civilians and military personnel, as well as dismissing or suspending about 150,000 workers in the government, the army, the judiciary, education and other institutions.
