Swords admits that the Andalusian PSOE has "a deep problem" and needs a thorough "review"

“We have to remove ties and not do the same thing and always tell the same thing”, assures the general secretary before the steering committee

The PSOE of Andalusia has a "profound problem" and needs a thorough "review".

This is what the general secretary of the Andalusian Socialists, Juan Espadas, said this afternoon in the first steering committee after the electoral debacle of June 19, in which this party further pierced its soil with just 30 seats of the 109 in the Andalusian Parliament.

Swords has not put hot cloths to the worst results of the Andalusian PSOE in its history with him as a candidate for the presidency of the Board, but it has not been considered responsible or unique or exclusive of them.

According to his analysis, the problems of connection with society began after the economic crisis of 2008. “Since 2012 the party has been continuously losing votes and on June 19, without a doubt, it got the worst in some regional elections.

We need a technical pit stop to review the vehicle in depth, to see what proposals we make, ”he said before the highest decision-making body between congresses.

Swords has recognized that he was surprised by the "magnitude" of the victory with an absolute majority of the PP, but not the fact that he won the elections.

“Although we have tried to convince ourselves that the PSOE was prepared to return to the Andalusian Government, the majority of society did not think the same.

She has not felt concerned by our analysis ”, she has underlined.

According to Espadas, the PSOE's offer "was not attractive" for the electorate and it has not been able to "mobilize" the people it addresses.

“When 60% participation is not reached and you address the most vulnerable people, with less income, those who need more of what is public and you see that they are not going to vote and they do not feel concerned because they understand that their lives are not going to change, the left has a serious structural problem”.

Swords has advocated for "courageous bets" as, in his opinion, Pedro Sánchez has done, but "communicated in another way to reach the last corner.

If that's not the case, we have no chance of winning."

Espadas has asked his party to make a "strategic commitment to broaden" its social base, something that, according to him, can only be achieved by conquering "an enormous space in the political center, which is what guarantees absolute majorities."

“We have to address the whole of society and not just one part.

We cannot leave a part to the right because we understand that it is from the right.

Moreno has addressed more people than us knowing that they were our voters and without any shame.

And the worst thing is that 15% of voters have bought it", said Espadas, who has asked the leaders of the PSOE to analyze not only the post-election data, but also the data prior to the elections, implying that they were worse than the final score.

“The problem is deep and it is not from a few months ago”, he has said.

Delay in renewal

Among the explanations for the electoral defeat, the socialist general secretary has mentioned the delay in the renewal process of the PSOE, which was launched with the regional congress held in November, although he was elected a candidate for the Board in June 2021 and a month later, general secretary.

“I have no attachment to the position, be clear about it, I took the step voluntarily and I considered that the party needed a change and that is not done in six months.

That change has to be built”.

Swords has advocated "structural changes" in the Andalusian PSOE.

"We have to remove ties and not do the same thing and always tell the same thing," in his opinion.

"The PSOE has to be something more than a machine to do the same to win the next elections."
