The former president of Peru Francisco Morales Bermúdez died this Thursday in Lima, his son, Remigio Morales Bermúdez, confirmed this Friday to the media RPP.
The former president died "due to an issue more related to his age. He had already turned 100 years old, he was a little delicate, he had a general imbalance from which in the end he could not be restored, he could not get out," said Remigio, who did not elaborate on his father's condition.
Morales Bermúdez, who governed the country at the head of a Military Junta between 1975 and 1980, was part of a group of Latin American soldiers sentenced in 2017 to life imprisonment by an Italian court for their participation in the so-called Plan Condor.
Condor was a military operation devised by the Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, a method of repression to favor military dictatorships in Latin America from 1975 in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.
The prosecutor's office in Rome accused these people of killing and disappearing twenty Italian-Latin American citizens in the development of that plan.

Morales Bermúdez assured that Peru did not participate in the Condor operation in an opinion column published in 2015.
The former president, who was also commander-in-chief of the Army, led the so-called "Tacnazo" in August 1975, a coup against Juan Velasco Alvarado, the state agency Andina recalled this Friday.
