Against the background of the visit to Biden: New Iranian sanctions on the United States | Israel Today

Although this is a symbolic step, since countries do not have relations anyway, it expresses the deadlock in negotiations to revive the nuclear agreement.

In the wake of Biden's visit to the region and the failure of the round of indirect talks with the United States, Tehran announced today (Saturday) a series of additional sanctions on American figures.

The statement said 61 more Americans had been added to Iran's blacklist, including Trump's US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, because of his support for a group of anti-regime Iranian exiles, the MEK, which also operates in Iran and is defined there as a terrorist organization.

Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, was also included in the list, as was John Bolton, who served under the former president as a national security adviser.

As mentioned, this is an act that has no practical significance because Iran does not have the ability to confiscate American assets anyway since the country does not have diplomatic relations.

However, Mike Pompeo, it has been previously reported, is targeting the Revolutionary Guards in light of Iran's desire for revenge on the assassination of Qassem Suleimani, commander of Quds Force, in 2020. The U.S. recently tried to see if Iran would be willing not to harm American elements. As part of a deal that would remove the Revolutionary Guards from the State Department's list of terrorist organizations, as part of a process that would help end the nuclear talks, but Iran refused.
