Hydrangeas in pots are popular balcony and house plants.

If you take a few care tips into account, the flowering period will be longer and the plant will grow faster.

Munich – hydrangea lovers have it good.

Even if you don't have a garden, you can call the beautiful plants with their large, pastel-colored flowers your own.

Because whether in the room or on the balcony - they can be cultivated very well in pots or tubs.

However, yellow leaves, hanging flowers or a short flowering period are an indication of incorrect care.

The advantage of hydrangeas kept in tubs or pots is that you can change their location.

You should also take advantage of this.

The ideal spot is sunny or partially shaded and sheltered from the wind.

However, in full sun, such as at midday, or on the bright window sill in the room, the hydrangea quickly becomes too hot.

You can also put the indoor hydrangea on the balcony or terrace and vice versa.

In order to be able to transport the plant easily, so-called plant or tub rollers are useful.

In order to achieve a longer flowering period, it is best to put the hydrangeas in a cooler place like the stairwell overnight.

Your hydrangea used to be deep blue and is now pink?

Don't worry, your hydrangea probably won't grow in the right soil.

Potted hydrangeas need a lot of water

In the garden with more root space, the hydrangea has more opportunities to meet its own nutritional needs, but should be kept in the tub with a little help.

These points are therefore also important for hydrangeas in pots:

  • For hydrangeas, use special rhododendron or azalea soil, which is slightly more acidic than traditional potting soil.

  • Hydrangeas need a lot of water, but don't like waterlogging.

A drainage layer is particularly useful for this.

It is best to water twice a day with low-lime water, so tap water is usually not suitable.

It is best to water from below as the plant is susceptible to powdery mildew.

  • From March to August, the hydrangea needs fertilizer every two weeks, hydrangea fertilizer is best.

  • Remove the faded umbels, but a harder pruning is not necessary.

Potted hydrangeas are more susceptible to diseases and pests such as spider mites, especially if kept as a houseplant in dry air.

Higher humidity, regular watering and a cooler location help here, which in turn promotes flowering.
