Encouraged by the Islamic State to carry out attacks and causing terror with the stabbing assassination of the teacher, Samuel Paty two years ago in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines), the use of these rudimentary weapons now takes place outside of any terrorist context.
“For several years, we have been witnessing an explosion of this type of attack which even affects medium-sized towns hitherto spared”
, points out M Thibault de Montbrial, president of the Center for reflection on internal security.
For increasingly minor issues, according to him, people are now pulling out the knife.
“They do not necessarily seek to kill but the hypothesis of the death of the other is totally indifferent to them.
This is what is terrifying,”
he describes, adding:
“All police departments are worried about this form of violence.”
