Spider catcher

This is spider season.

Wherever you look, you will see them, and they refuse to pay you rent for entering the house.

Although most of them are harmless, spiders can be a nuisance at home and many people find these eight-legged creatures creepy and scary (and it must not be forgotten that some can even be poisonous).

To try and get rid of them and not let them enter your home, cleaning experts shared their tips after one of the Facebook group surfers: "Miss Hinc's cleaning recommendations" asked: "What are the ways to prevent spiders from entering?".

In general the recommendation is not to try to kill the spiders, but many people are afraid of them, so the search is a more humanitarian way to try and get rid of them.

Many of the respondents suggested using essential peppermint oil.

"After I finish washing the floor I go through again with a mixture of water and peppermint oil, wrote one of the surfers and another person wrote: 'Peppermint oil and lemon juice with a drop of water in a spray bottle.

"Spray on windows, walls, near the front door and the back door, and no spider will enter."

Another cleaning fan added: "A combination of peppermint oil with water and spray on the windows, doors and places you think the spiders enter from."

Another person wrote: "I agree, oils of this kind help in these cases, it is also cheap."

Peppermint oil can be bought in some stores for a few shekels.

The idea behind its use is that strong odors will prevent the spiders from penetrating, as they smell with their feet and follow extremely strong odors and their sense of smell.

Therefore lavender oil is also recommended.

"You may find spiders and what you scatter may prevent them from coming out. The best solution in this case is to clean the house, vacuum normally, and when you see a spider, just get it out of the house."

According to the healthline website, to make a spider repellent spray put about five drops of peppermint oil in a 500 ml spray bottle, fill the bottle with water, add a little dish soap and shake the mixture well. Use the spray around doors and windows, around the outside perimeter of your home, and all A dark corner where spiders may be hiding.

You will need to use spider repellent more often than conventional insecticides.

Try spraying once a week and if the spiders reappear before the end of the week, try spraying every few days.

In addition to the spray, you can place mint pots in strategic places inside and outside the house and try to scatter mint leaves in places that are flooded by spiders.

Dangers and warnings

Peppermint oil is generally considered safe in small doses.

At the same time it contains menthol, which can cause skin irritation.

According to the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy, inhaling large doses of peppermint oil can cause dizziness, confusion, muscle weakness, double vision and nausea, among others.

The risk of suffering from side effects increases if large amounts of undiluted peppermint oil are sprayed in a closed area.

Therefore, always mint the peppermint oil and be careful when spraying indoors.

Avoid spraying the entire house at once and spraying small areas at a time, leaving the windows open for fresh air.

According to the American Animal Welfare Association, mint is toxic to dogs and cats.

They do not even have to eat it to get sick and just inhaling mint can cause them severe symptoms.

Therefore, if you have dogs or cats in the house, avoid using peppermint oil - unless it is in an area that pets cannot reach.
