At 10 p.m. on Tuesday, 250 firefighters were still fighting 13 fires, including one near Parc Astérix, which preferred to cancel its fire

The Oise is on fire.

Still.

About 250 firefighters were engaged on Tuesday to fight crop and forest fires.

At the end of the afternoon, flames even caused concern near Parc Astérix.

"The wind is gusting, the fire is still in the attack phase, it is gaining momentum", detailed a gendarme, at 7:45 p.m.

The fire started in a wood, along the D607, between Thiers-sur-Thève and Mortefontaine, at the edge of the Chemin de la Tournelle.

The road was cut off to traffic.

The mayor of Plailly, Michel Mangot, contacted around 8:15 p.m., was more reassuring.

“He is circumscribed for now.

It's a real relief.

But the wood still smokes.

It shouldn't start again because we have a hot wind blowing.

Parc Astérix is surrounded by woods and the fire was not far away.

About 1 km, 1.5 km away according to the gendarmerie.

Contacted, the amusement park has indicated that it is not directly affected.

If smoke was visible from the site, there was no impact on the activity and no evacuation measures were taken.

Management has nevertheless decided to cancel the fireworks scheduled for Tuesday evening, so as not to mobilize firefighters and let them work on this fire.

At 9 p.m., reinforcements were still arriving.

A helicopter was still circling the area and a plume of smoke was still visible.

A village completely evacuated

Another place, another fright, a little earlier in the day.

In Le Crocq, a small town of 178 inhabitants, the inhabitants had to be evacuated.

A 60-hectare crop fire was dangerously approaching the village.

The fire started with a combine harvester.

According to the gendarmes, there was “a great mobilization of farmers who intervened to clear the edges of the field in flames and thus avoid the fire jumps.

This initiative enabled the firefighters to quickly overcome the disaster.

As a precaution, the mayor preferred to evacuate the population preventively even if, for the police, "there was no imminent danger for the dwellings".

The population has since been able to return to their homes.

The A16 motorway and the trains affected

While agents from the National Forestry Office were prospecting in the Oise State massif following a prefectural decree prohibiting all human presence in the forest to limit fires, a fire also broke out in a wood in La Neuville-en- Hez on the Picardy Plateau.

“A field fire that spread to a wood.

Fortunately, my son, a firefighter, quickly saw the start of the fire and called the emergency services, ”says Julien, a resident, present on the spot.

The crop fires left no respite for the firefighters.

In Moulin-sous-Touvent, east of the department, in Vignemont… A fire broke out in Velennes, north of Beauvais.

“It is the accidental track which is privileged”, indicates the gendarmerie.

The fire started on the side of the road, perhaps because of a cigarette butt or a broken bottle.

The field had already been harvested and 15 hectares of stubble were destroyed.

The opaque smoke almost caused the closure of the A16 motorway, but a gendarmerie patrol was dispatched to the scene to force motorists to slow down.

On leaving Thiers-sur-Thève, the D607 remained closed to traffic as long as the emergency services were at work to control the fire.

Train users were not spared.

A fire near Breteuil - and another in Louvres (Val-d'Oise) - severely disrupted traffic between Paris, Oise and Somme... Started at the start of the afternoon, the mess had not completely disappeared, at Gare du Nord, at the end of the day.

At 5 p.m., Éric de Valroger, president of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Oise, reported about ten fires.

A little before 10 p.m., the Oise prefecture indicated that “the Oise SDIS intervened today on 13 fires in natural and cultivated areas for around 145 hectares burned in total”.

Which are in addition to the 252 hectares burned since the end of June.

At this same time, about 250 firefighters were still engaged on the ground.
