The General Secretariat of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions approved the convening of the Central Council of the Federation and the meeting of the General Secretaries of the Arab Trade Unions in Damascus on the tenth of next August.
The General Secretariat, during its remote meeting yesterday, headed by the Secretary-General of the Federation, President of the General Federation of Trade Unions in Syria, Jamal Al-Qadri, conducted an assessment of its activity during the last period, where the importance of strengthening Arab trade union work and unifying union efforts to face the current challenges and continue to defend the rights and gains of Arab workers and enhance the role of Arab workers was emphasized. The General Secretariat in various fields of interest to the Arab trade union organizations that are members of the Federation. The meeting also studied a number of new affiliation requests submitted by Arab trade union federations.
The Secretary-General of the Federation indicated that the goal of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions is to preserve the unity of the Arab trade union movement and the unity of Qatari organizations and to keep abreast of developments taking place in the region at various levels and to deal with them from the gateway to the interest of Arab workers and to guarantee their rights and in a manner that contributes to achieving Arab unity at the popular level to face challenges facing the Arab countries.
Al-Qadri called on Arab trade union organizations to unify visions and goals, focus on women participants in union work, enhance the role and work of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions, renounce all factors of discrimination, face difficulties and cooperate to find solutions to them, especially in light of the difficult reality experienced by the Arab region.
The Secretary-General of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions, during his speech, referred to the maintenance work taking place at the headquarters of the International Federation in Damascus, in addition to preparing the Arab Institute for Labor Studies, which recently resumed its work and launched its first labor courses to return to its previous era in training and preparing Arab union cadres.
In turn, the assistant secretaries and members of the General Secretariat stressed the necessity and importance of activating the role of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions and strengthening cooperation and coordination between its various members, expressing thanks for the efforts made by the Secretary-General and the Syrian Workers Union to re-launch and activate the joint Arab trade union action.
Representatives from Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, Tunisia, Mauritania and Sudan participated in the meeting.
