The New York State Department of Health announced today that a case of polio has been detected outside New York City, the first known infection in the country in at least 30 years.
Reuters quoted the state health department's office as saying in a statement, "The examination indicated that the case detected in Rockland County may have come from outside the United States."
"A close follow-up process is underway with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to address this public health emergency to protect the health and safety of the county residents," the source added.
