In New York, a patient who had not received the polio vaccine was diagnosed with the disease in Rockwell County.
This would be the first case of polio in almost a decade.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that symptoms are similar to those of the flu and include fever, sore throat, nausea and headache.
Symptoms linked to the nervous system, such as paralysis, are less common.
