The results of the DSE Diploma of Secondary Education Examination were released last week. Every year when the results are released, I feel very excited.

Because the release of the list means that nursing schools and colleges and universities are preparing for the wave of registration again, and I am delighted to see a new batch of nursing students join, injecting new strength into the industry.

I still remember attending the graduation ceremony of the nursing school every year, and I always hear the unanimous words of my classmates when they share on the stage: "Nursing is not just a job, but a mission and a commitment." We are in need of young people's fire. The regiment is passionate about the work of nurses.

The COVID-19 outbreak has highlighted the society's ardent demand for medical staff. With the aging of the population and the development of medical care, the role of nurses has become increasingly important, and their professional status has continued to improve.

In my opinion, what attracts young people to join the "angel in white" industry is not only a sense of mission to rescue the emergency, but also the stable promotion ladder provided by the HA is also very important.

Last year, the HA introduced a series of measures to retain manpower, including the creation of the post of "Associate Consultant Nurse" among consultant nurses and senior nurses.

After a round of interviews, the first batch of 59 assistant consultant nurses was released early last month.

We are still conducting multiple rounds of interviews non-stop. We meet more than 100 candidates every month and select suitable candidates to take them to the next level in their careers.

Last year, the HA added the post of "Associate Consultant Nurse" among the consultant nurses and senior nurses, which has broadened the clinical promotion ladder. After a round of interviews, the first batch of 59 assistant consultant nurses was released early last month.

After many interviews, I would like to share my knowledge and experience.

First of all, since the Assistant Consultant Nurse is a new position, there is no precedent for the interview process, and there will be no "tips" from people who come over.

Therefore, I am also very curious about what kind of colleagues this position will attract to apply, and how much preparation they will have to do before going into battle.

As a result, I found that the colleagues who came to apply were full of confidence and potential.

I observed that there are mainly two types of colleagues who took the exam, including senior colleagues with many years of extensive clinical experience, and another group of relatively young people in their early thirties, with about three years of experience as senior nurses.

Colleagues with rich clinical experience have practical experience in different projects in relevant departments, and they have a good understanding of various services. When talking about various services in specialties and departments, of course they are well aware of it; having said that, another class with less experience Young people, the interview performance is not inferior to that of the "big brothers and sisters", and they are very knowledgeable in their answers. It is obvious that they have worked hard before the interview.

Colleagues who come to interview, regardless of experience, are all energetic and full of enthusiasm and expectations for new jobs.

I am very happy to see that this new position is not only attractive to senior colleagues, but also to young people. It can be seen that they are looking forward to the career prospects of nurses and are working hard to develop their nursing profession along the promotion ladder.

This phenomenon is indeed gratifying.

While the media has repeatedly reported the serious manpower loss problem in the HA, we are also actively recruiting talents through different channels. For example, this time, we have created the position of assistant consultant nurse and started recruitment. The large number of job applications also shows that there are still Many colleagues hope that through the promotion ladder of the HA nursing profession, they can make a big difference in their careers.

It is estimated that in 2023/24, the HA will have 440 assistant nurse nurse positions and 200 consultant nurse positions, hoping to cultivate potential and capable colleagues for gradual promotion.

It is true that the problem of manpower loss in the HA needs to be seriously addressed.

With the resignation and retirement of some senior nurse colleagues, we are faced with the challenges of inheritance of experience and manpower. More manpower is needed to fill the vacancies, and there is indeed a certain degree of pressure by recruiting new positions of associate nurse nurses.

But everything has its own chance. The old man leaves and the new man enters.

From a positive perspective, the departure of senior colleagues has provided opportunities for young colleagues to move upward in this wave of turnover, which is not a bad thing.

This year and next year, the HA will create nearly 300 associate nurse positions and 40 consultant nurse positions. It is estimated that in 2023/24, the HA will have 440 associate nurse positions and 200 consultant nurse positions.

We hope to cultivate potential and capable colleagues to be promoted step by step, so as to broaden the clinical promotion ladder, and recruit talents to form a high-quality medical and nursing team to benefit the public.

"Hong Kong 01" "01 Clinic", in cooperation with the Hospital Authority, publishes a column "Garden Tour" written by medical staff every Wednesday.

Apricot Forest.

"Xinglin" comes from the story of Dong Feng, a famous doctor in the Three Kingdoms era. Later generations praised medical care as "Xinglin". Five people from Xinglin from the Hospital Authority led the garden to visit Xinglin Grand View Garden. A little bit of reason.
