Royal titles are joined by cute nicknames alongside regular given names, especially in the family of Kate Middleton and Prince William.

On rare occasions they slip out of someone.

Most recently the Duchess during a conversation in Leicester.

Leicester - During a visit to Leicester, Kate Middleton (40) revealed that her three children - Prince George (9), Princess Charlotte (7) and Prince Louis (4) have a very special name for their father Prince William (40).

The three Cambridge offspring were apparently not satisfied with "Dad" or "Pa", so another name has become common for the Duke of Cambridge.

George, Charlotte and Louis call Prince William by a special nickname

While visiting Leicester, mum Kate Middleton ran into a viewer named Fiona Sturgess, who later opened up to reporters about her meetings with the Duchess.

According to People magazine,

"Kate said Prince William was playing soccer with the kids last night and one of them, I think it was Prince George, said, 'Are you going to play soccer tomorrow, pops?'" Kate shared along the way the affectionate father title for William.

Over the years, anecdotes like this little episode kept coming up and gradually a number of nicknames used by the royal family among themselves became known.

In a letter from Princess Charlotte to her "grandma" Princess Diana (36, † 1997) around Mother's Day 2021, the little princess wrote the touching words "Dad misses you".

The Royal Family loves nicknames like any other family

Prince William also has nicknames for his children.

William dubbed Princess Charlotte "Mignonette" during a tour of the gardens at the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show.

Appropriately, "mignonette" derives from the French word "mignon" meaning "small, sweet and delicate" or "cute".

According to Old French definitions, "mignon" also means "delicate, pleasing, gentle and friendly".

Kate called Charlotte by her own nickname "Lottie" in 2019.

Kate Middleton also has a nickname for her father-in-law Prince Charles.

At the G-7 summit in the summer of 2021, she openly addressed him as "Grandpa".

Prince Charles, for his part, has a nickname for his wife, Duchess Camilla.

On a plain gold bracelet was the engraving: GF, which supposedly stands for "Girl Friday" (refers to a good friend in difficult times).

But back to the Cambridges.

Kate and William also have a nickname for Prince George.

The future heir to the throne should simply be called "PG".
