"Prepared for the future": Abens fire brigade inaugurates new vehicle and renovated flag

The Abens fire brigade recently had two reasons to celebrate: the new vehicle and the renovated flag were inaugurated.

And to celebrate the day there was a surprise.

– “Now the Lord is coming with us!” Pastor Stephan Rauscher announced in his usual Bavarian-casual manner recently after the festive service at the vehicle and flag consecration ceremony of the Abens volunteer fire brigade.

Because a lot had to be canceled due to Corona, there were two reasons to celebrate and to be happy because of the newly purchased portable pump vehicle (TSF) and the newly renovated fire brigade flag.

Achim Peichl from Dellnhausen also caused a big surprise, because he had come up with something very special to celebrate the Florian's disciples.

Although the new TSF has been in operation since 2019, the associated celebrations had to be repeatedly postponed due to the pandemic.

The situation was similar with the fire brigade flag from 1966, which had already been given a general overhaul in 1979 and was finally refreshed again in 2020 - but not inaugurated due to the corona restrictions.

And because heavenly blessings can never do any harm, Rauscher generously consecrated not only the vehicle and flag but also all comrades and spectators with the words "In such a heat it doesn't do any harm anyway".

The first commander of the FFW Abens, Stephan Felsl, expressed a big thank you, especially to the municipality of Au and Mayor Hans Sailer for the good cooperation and the financing of the vehicle.

"With the new TSF we are well prepared for the future," explained Felsl.

The head of the town hall praised the great commitment of the Florian disciples, especially in the youth work that is so important.

What then turned up in the firefighters' yard, no one had expected: Dellnhauser Achim Peichl had used his contacts and ordered comrades from Pfaffenhofen to Abens - together with an original Mack Fire Pumper, the iconic US fire engine par excellence.

The goose bumps moment: The 500 hp mobile with a water volume of 5000 liters, built in 1982, was used on September 11, 2001 in New York, among other places.

20 Florian disciples from Pfaffenhofen then bought the Mack around 2020 and have been presenting it at exhibitions or parades ever since - or in the evenings at the TSF dedication ceremony.

Numerous clubs and fire brigades from near and far let the day end comfortably - with coffee, cake and talking shop about the new TSF and of course about the Fire Pumper, whose gigantic spraying power the Florian disciples then tried out in the afternoon.
