Moldova and Transnistria: between war and peace

REPORT - Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Moldova has looked like a puzzle whose pieces are constantly threatening to come apart. We traveled through this "hinterland", to meet a people struggling to unite.


Day 1

  • Chisinau, the almost European

A brief summary of Moldovan nationalism: on March 3, President Maia Sandu (elected in December 2020) submitted her application for membership of the European Union.

On May 9, the streets of the capital celebrated both Europe Day and the Nazi surrender to Soviet troops (with “Z”, “V” and other signs of support for the Russian offensive).

On June 15, Emmanuel Macron was in Chisinau, and on June 23, the Twenty-Seven granted Moldova (like Ukraine) its official status as a candidate for the European Union.
