Mogadishu-SANA
The Somali authorities announced today that at least 12 people were killed in a terrorist attack on the Hyatt Hotel in the center of the capital, Mogadishu.
Reuters quoted Somali intelligence officials as saying that "12 people have been confirmed killed so far, most of them civilians," noting that attempts to break the siege on the hotel are still underway.
The attackers stormed the (Hyatt) Hotel last night with two car bombs before entering it, firing their weapons and taking control of the building, while reports indicated that the clashes between the gunmen and the Somali forces led to the destruction of large parts of the hotel.
An earlier toll had stated that eight civilians were killed as a result of the attack, for which the Somali Al-Shabab movement, linked to the terrorist al-Qaeda network, claimed responsibility.
