Cosmetic surgeries increase after the pandemic. These are the most popular

The money saved during the worst months of the coronavirus and the negative effect of remote work, with many video conferences, partly explain the rise in interventions.

The demand for cosmetic surgeries soared in the United States after the end of the critical phase of the coronavirus pandemic, which confined millions of people at home and made office attendance remote, according to a report published this Wednesday by the Association American Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

The most popular procedures are liposculpture, facial retouching, breast implants, abdominoplasty and breast reshaping, according to the report, in which more than 300 doctors from all over the country participated.

More than 75% of plastic surgeons have seen an increase in demand for their services, compared to pre-pandemic levels.

And at least a quarter said they doubled their work.

"The report indicates that, despite the economic uncertainty that exists at the moment, people continue to prioritize their spending on things that benefit them and make them feel more secure," plastic surgeon C. Bob told the Daily Mail. Basu.

He highlighted, among the reasons that explain the increase in cosmetic surgeries, that many saved money in the pandemic because they stopped traveling and eating out.

And he cited a negative effect of telecommuting, because some people developed self-esteem issues after spending hours in front of the computer watching themselves on video during remote meetings, which could explain the uptick in facial retouching.

Surgeons also reported that 17% of their patients were willing to spend more than before the pandemic on cosmetic procedures.

Some of them assured that they wanted to look younger or because of a self-esteem problem.

The most frequent group at plastic surgeons' clinics were women between the ages of 31 and 45, who frequently requested breast augmentation, liposuction and abdominoplasty.

However, experts also warn of the dangers of some plastic surgeries and advise interested patients to go to a high-quality center with a board-certified surgeon.
