The visit of the nationalist-populist prime minister, who had already come in March 2021, comes after a period of tension between Paris and Warsaw.
In early April, the French ambassador to Poland was summoned following remarks by Emmanuel Macron accusing Mateusz Morawiecki of "
extreme right-wing anti-Semitism
" and of "
interfering in the French political campaign
" by pointing out his proximity with Marine Le Pen, her far-right presidential rival.
Mr. Macron was thus reacting to the remarks of the head of the Polish government who attacked him for these frequent telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Poland is among the most unconditional supporters of Ukraine within the EU, but also among the countries most critical of Russia, as opposed in particular to Germany and France, whose positions have sometimes been more cautious.
In a column published by Le Monde, Mateusz Morawiecki recently denounced the "
de facto oligarchy
" imposed by France and Germany on the 25 other EU member states.
The EU has been engaged in a standoff for several years with its nationalist conservative government over its judicial reforms, which are accused of undermining the independence of judges.
