Special envoy to Rome
Pope Francis certainly never takes a vacation, but his 2022 “return” will be one of the most active in the pontificate.
At 85, he inaugurates on Saturday a sequence of four very dense days, centered - without saying it - on his… succession.
First act, the creation on Saturday of twenty new cardinals;
act II, the visit, Sunday, in the city of Aquila, of the tomb of Celestine V, the only pope in history - with Benedict XVI now - who resigned.
Finally, the final scene, Monday and Tuesday, an almost unprecedented closed-door council of all the cardinals to discuss and explain to them the reform of the Roman curia as well as the new governance of the Church.
