The new children's home with crèche and kindergarten in Walpertskirchen will open on Thursday, September 1st.

Walpertskirchen

– Mayor Franz Hörmann informs in an interview with our newspaper about the multi-million dollar project in the town center.

"In view of the difficult situation on the construction site, we can be very satisfied with the process," says the community leader, with a view to the corona pandemic and material shortages.

"The costs are still within the calculation from February 2020 with total costs of 6.3 million euros including furniture, outdoor facilities and ancillary construction costs." 2.75 million in grants are expected.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.)

The architects, Hirner & Riehl, were entrusted with planning the building and the landscape architects Lex-Kerfers with the design of the outdoor facilities.

The children's home, which is sponsored by the Catholic Church, is designed for six groups: three kindergarten and two crèche groups as well as a mixed group and a maximum of five integration children.

A team of around 25, including many part-time employees, looks after around 125 children.

Hörmann could look back on more than two years of building history.

In March 2020, the old building, the so-called monastery of the English ladies and the place of work of the sculptor Erich Heuschneider, who has since died, was demolished.

Construction began in March 2021.

Inscriptions from the old building were integrated into the entrance area to commemorate the cultural and artistic history.

A sculpture by the local artist has also been installed.

The kindergarten children threw curious looks into the time capsule, which was sunk into the building foundation.

Mayor Franz Hörmann also welcomed manager Gabriele Cilsik.

Aspects of sustainability were decisive for the new building.

Around 600 cubic meters of spruce wood, mostly from the region, were used in the solid wood construction.

The facade itself is designed with pre-grey silver fir and the heating system is connected to the municipal local heating network, fed by a local biogas system and supplemented by a wood chip system.

With the photovoltaic system on the roof, the required electricity can be generated and fed into the grid.

A ventilation system for an “optimal room air climate” was also installed.

The children's house has "beautiful, bright rooms," says Hörmann.

He describes the spacious auditorium and canteen on the ground floor as the “heart”.

There are six group clusters with the same equipment, each with a main and side room and different usage options for the different age groups.

All group rooms have direct access to the terrace or garden.

Two groups share a sanitary area.

On the first floor is the spacious gym and exercise room, which can also be used for internal events, as well as a creative room for handicrafts and handicrafts and an intensive room.

A staff room, a utility room, two technical rooms and a management room were also housed on the upper floor.

Another management room is located on the ground floor, as well as a visitor toilet and a garden toilet.

A play balcony, covered with a safety net, and wide play hallways should ensure great freedom of movement.

Time capsule with blueprints, council decisions, newspaper articles, coins and handicrafts

A time capsule was sunk into the foundation of the building, containing construction plans, municipal council decisions, newspaper articles from the Erdinger Anzeiger, coins and handicrafts made by the kindergarten children.

The outdoor facilities include a play area in the southern area, which is designed with different play equipment tailored to the age groups.

A noise protection wall for the ED 14 thoroughfare is intended to protect the children from street noise to a large extent.

In addition, the district road along the course of the building is to be restricted to 30 km/h.

The municipal council has also set the course for traffic calming on the church square: As reported, it should only be driven on at walking speed, and there are also clear parking regulations.

The inauguration of the new building with the possibility of viewing is planned for Friday, October 14th.

On Saturday, October 15, the facility, which was previously located in the immediate vicinity of the new building, celebrates its 50th birthday.

Ideas are developed for the use of the old building.
