The outrage that prevailed in the Republican camp following the FBI's search of Donald Trump's home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida on August 8 has died down.
Because, quickly, the extent of the theft of secret documents perpetrated by the former president becomes clearer.
The leaders of the GOP (Grand Old Party, conservative) are now taking the measure of the legal risks incurred by Donald Trump and are alarmed, behind the scenes, as to the gravity of the facts: in January 2022, the National Archives had recovered fifteen boxes of papers presidential documents unduly carried away, unearthing 184 classified documents, set with the stamp of the CIA or the NSA, and concerning precious sources of human or technological intelligence.
Donald Trump proclaimed the purity of his intentions, claiming in turn to have the power to
"declassify"
any document, and not to have been kept informed of the details of the files packaged at the White House and sent to Florida.
These arguments fall apart...
