“Alsace is one of those essential French territories whose gastronomic fame not only inspires our national culinary scene but goes well beyond the borders of France. Having always produced some of the greatest talents in the restaurant and catering trades, Alsace shines with the multiplicity of its know-how, its recipes and its products. So many assets and references that make it an ideal and natural region to present our new selection of restaurants,”
said Gwendal Poullennec, director of the Michelin Guides.
Frédéric Bierry, President of the European Community of Alsace, recalls the role of gastronomy in the region:
“In Alsace, gastronomy is an integral part of the life of the inhabitants, which traditionally combines gustatory pleasures and conviviality around the table.
In this context, the European Community of Alsace will propose a year dedicated to gastronomy in Alsace to promote gastronomic experiences in perfect coherence with new virtuous practices and guaranteeing access, for all Alsatians, to quality, healthy and balanced food at affordable prices.

The Guide specified that starred chefs from all over Europe would be invited to the European capital.
The historic region currently has no 3-stars and seven 2-stars: the Villa René Lalique in Wingen-sur-Moder, the Table d'Olivier Nasti in Kaysersberg (whose name often comes up for a third), the JY's in Colmar, La Fourchette des Ducs in Obernai, Auberge de l'Ill in Illhaeusern, La Merise in Laubach and Auberge du Cheval Blanc in Lembach.
