The Cinema House project provided an opportunity for short film lovers to watch two Syrian films this evening as part of the project's screening plan at Al-Kindi Cinema in Damascus.

The first medium-length film, entitled The Witch's Eye, directed by Hazem Zeidan, which he wrote in partnership with Amir Abu al-Khair, presents human worlds with a lot of emotional subjectivity in the style of magical realism.

About showing the film in the cinema house, Zidan said in a statement to SANA reporter, “This is my first professional film after graduating from the Higher Institute of Cinema in Egypt, and it is the first building block of my cinematic project that I am working on, indicating that showing the film in the cinema is a good opportunity to inform the audience about it.”

In turn, the artist, Lama, as the heroine of the work, explained that the filmmakers took advantage of him with much love, despite all the difficulties that existed at the time of filming in 2018, pointing out that the film was shown only once at the Short Film Festival because short and medium films do not have many screening opportunities.

As for the second movie, titled “Deep Sleep”, written and directed by Khaled Othman Farshad, in which the story of a family composed of a retired couple and their young immigrant son married to a foreigner, to see the repercussions and effects of war on the lives of these people, especially the father, the film director, who is haunted by the obsession of death and survival at the same time.

Regarding the film, director Othman said that this work was the culmination of the study trip at the Higher Institute of Cinema and the period that followed, and it was produced in 2020, indicating that the film project he is working on is concerned with presenting cinema that resembles life.

For his part, the able artist Abbas Al-Nouri, the hero of the film, who completed the dramatic treatment of it, confirmed that the idea of ​​the film is simple, but effective and profound. Humanity is far from the museum form of cinema.

Director Firas Muhammad, one of the Cinema House supervisors, pointed out that the project seeks to find screening opportunities for short and medium-length Syrian films, whether professional or grant films for the Youth Cinema Support Project, in coordination with the Cinema Foundation and young directors, so that these films have a share within the project plan and to achieve diversity in the Cinema House shows .

The show was followed by a dialogue session with the directors of the two films, during which a number of the audience presented their interventions and questions about the two films.

It is noteworthy that the Cinema House is a cultural project affiliated with the General Film Organization that presents its shows periodically and semi-monthly, selecting the best international and Syrian films.
