This summer, peaks of 41°C were reached in the cities of our country, including Paris, transforming them into furnaces and urban life into an ordeal.
Promoting the densification of city centers, rather than urban sprawl, is certainly a valid principle for most cities in our territory since it helps to preserve natural and agricultural areas.
However, in inner Paris, it is inapplicable: the heart of our metropolis is already one of the most densely built cities in the world.
And continuing to densify is irresponsible in terms of public health.
The intensity of urban heat islands being a function of this density, excessive concreting leads to untenable situations where cities are unable to cool themselves at night.
Paris is a very mineral city, deficient in green spaces, with 3.1 m of green spaces open to the public per inhabitant (source Apur) whereas the WHO recommends 10 m.
