In the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, a cat sits in the burning rubble of a building.

The fire brigade rushes to the animal's aid.

A horrific picture of destruction is emerging in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

According to media reports, the worst bombings since the beginning of the war were carried out on the villages in the region last weekend.

In the middle of the burning rubble sits a cat that cannot free itself.

Only the fire brigade can save her.

During their deployment in Kharkiv, Ukrainian firefighters showed a heart for animals.

A hotel and restaurant complex is in ruins after a rocket attack, the state emergency services announced on Facebook on Sunday.

In the burning remains of the building, a gray and white cat fights for its life.

The velvet paw is trapped under a metal chair and can't get out anymore.

When the fire brigade forces spot them, they don't hesitate for long.

A cat café in Ukraine also remains open to continue caring for the animals.

To save the cat, the firefighters climb through the flames and smoke.

A video shows them bringing the cat to safety while lovingly petting it.

One of the rescue workers also cleans the velvet paw with water.

"We've found a beauty," notes one of the firefighters across the street as the animal squirms in his colleague's arms.

A dog that survived a bomb attack in Ukraine is similarly lucky.
