Berlin – In view of the rising prices, the federal government has launched a third relief package.

This now also includes the much-demanded help for pensioners, students and trainees.

In addition, families benefit from the latest relief plans.

Because as part of the package, the child benefit should also be increased.

Traffic light increases child benefit – and is receiving criticism

The result paper of the coalition committee also said that child benefit should be increased by 18 euros per month as of January 1, 2023 - but only for the first and second child.

Accordingly, families with two children receive 237 euros per month per child.

An increase for the third and fourth child was not planned according to the results.

However, that changed again shortly after the relief package was presented.

Because the child benefit plans had to take criticism, especially from the Union.

Unfortunately, families with multiple children went away empty-handed, said the family policy spokeswoman for the Union faction, Silvia Breher (CDU), on Tuesday.

The federal government is forgetting families with many children, said Bavaria's Family Minister Ulrike Scharf (CSU).

Relief package: increase in child benefit now also for the third child

As a result, the traffic light government has now improved.

Federal Family Minister Lisa Paus confirmed this on Tuesday (September 6) when asked.

"The child benefit for the third child is equalized, i.e. increased to the same level as the child benefit for the first two children," said the Greens politician to the German Press Agency.

"That means that there will be 237 euros per month for the first, second and third child." Previously, the amount for the third child was 225 euros per month.

But not only the child benefit is increased.

Low-income families who receive the child allowance can also look forward to more money in the coming year.

On July 1, 2022, this had already risen from 209 euros a month to 229 euros.

On January 1, 2023, it will be raised again to 250 euros.
