“MasterChef”: why the show with France 2 sauce does not take

CRITICISM – The new version of the show, now broadcast every Tuesday evening in the first part of the evening, does not appeal to the public. Explanations.


There are countless old TV formats that have had a second life in recent years.

“Surprise on hold!”, “Take it or leave it”, “Beijing Express”… The latest comeback?

“MasterChef” relaunched on Tuesday, August 23 in prime time.

Initially broadcast by TF1 between 2009 and 2015, the program is now offered on France 2 with, at the presentation, Agathe Lecaron and, in the jury: Yves Camdeborde, already present in the first version, Thierry Marx and Georgiana Viou, former participant .

But it is clear that the sauce does not take.

They were only 1.8 million curious on average in front of the launch (i.e. 10.7% of the public), 1.55 million gourmands the following week (8.7% of PDA) and more than 1.27 million and 6 .6% of the public last Tuesday.

When the brand was still branded TF1, success was already running out of steam

The fundamentals of “MasterChef” are however back through the tests that made the success of the show in the early 2010s: the mystery box and the recognition test.
