Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96 - connections to Bavaria

Coburg is the hometown of Prince Albert, the Queen's great-great-grandfather.

He had married British Queen Victoria in 1840, so the royal house was called "Saxe-Coburg and Gotha", which became problematic in the First World War.

Elizabeth II's grandfather, George V, changed the royal family name to Windsor.

However, the British royal family hardly maintained ties to Germany because of the temporary proximity of the Coburg ducal family to the National Socialists.
