A magnitude 4.8 earthquake, the epicenter of which was located on the Franco-Swiss border, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Network (Renass), occurred late Saturday afternoon and was widely felt in the north-east of France.
So far, no serious damage has been reported.
According to the first elements and GPS data from Renass, based in Strasbourg, the earthquake occurred at 3:58 p.m. GMT (5:58 p.m. local time) at Schlierbach, a French village in Haut-Rhin, south of Mulhouse, on the border with Switzerland.
The epicenter was located about 12 kilometers deep, according to the same source.
The tremors were felt over a wide radius.
On its site, the Renass thus reported testimonies from the departments of Bas-Rhin, Vosges, Doubs, the Territory of Belfort, Meurthe-et-Moselle or even Ain, nearly 230 km from the 'epicenter.
