Britain has lost its Queen and the Royal Family its longtime leader.

Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96.

The monarch's death has sparked grief around the world.

Balmoral – The large number of condolences from around the world that are currently reaching Buckingham Palace underscore the great impact Queen Elizabeth II has left.

For 70 years she sat steadfastly on the British throne - a reign and presence that are difficult to put into words.

Nevertheless, Europe's royal families, politicians and personalities from sports, film & Co. want to pay tribute to the late Queen.

The news of Queen Elizabeth II's death caused great dismay in the palaces of The Hague, Oslo & Co. “We commemorate Queen Elizabeth II with deep respect and great affection.

Steadfast and wise, she dedicated her long life to the service of the British people,” write King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands (55), his wife Máxima (50) and Princess Beatrix (84).

King Harald of Norway (85) also expresses his sadness with emotional lines: "For a century, the Queen devoted herself to her work and accompanied the British people through joy and sorrow, in good times and in bad."

Not only the royals are badly shaken.

Recently appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss (47) describes today, September 8, 2022, the anniversary of the Queen's death, as

"a day of great losses, but Queen Elizabeth II leaves a great legacy"

.

Her predecessor Boris Johnson (58) speaks of "the saddest day in our country", while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (64)

mourns Queen Elizabeth II as a

"role model and inspiration for millions, also here in Germany" .
